Regarding the audio quality, Matthew explains a bit:

In order to get the crowd in the recording, I had to butcher the vocals a little. Next time I play a show like this I’ll have a microphone set up out in the crowd rather than relying on the one that’s attached to my head. Hopefully it’s still tolerable in this recording!

Matthew was named one of the Guests of Honor at this year’s FWA convention. While he was there he put on a full-length show, debuting some new live material to the Atlanta crowd. It was also his first live performance with sequenced backup tracks (he calls it his robot band).

Occasionally Matthew plays for a crowd that’s not entirely human. One recent show was earlier this year in Jacksonville, FL at Megaplex 2008. The event organizers didn’t realize that the hotel had placed an anniversary party in the ballroom next door, so the two parties actually managed to spill into each other a little!
