This is a song I wrote and recorded back in 2001, but many of the Members have been requesting a newer version (now that I can sing and play a lot better, I assume). It’s about a Christian boy coming to terms with the fact that he’s gay. So often we’re faced with the assumption that one must be straight to be Christian, but I believe that assumption is pure arrogance. Sin or not, I was always taught that Christ made people pure and I believe that many gay Christians need to hear that reassurance from time to time.

Lyrics:
It’s alright, Danny,
So you broke your father’s heart.
God knows, he tried to lead you,
he tried to play his part.
But now he says God hates you
and he doesn’t know your name.
Well trust me, Danny,
He feels your pain
It’s okay, Danny,
so you weren’t the ladies’ man.
God knows you tried your hardest
to fit in with the plan,
but now, you say you’re different
and you’ve heard God disapproves.
Well, Danny, I can’t tell you
how He moves
Right or wrong, He’s heard your song
and He can understand.
The truth is nothing you can do
will rip you from His hand.
You’re crying, Danny,
you think that life has come apart.
God knows, inside you’re hurting,
He hears it from your heart,
but cool your fire with the words
that come from God above:
Jesus only looks at you with love.

The recording quality on this song is quite exceptional. 5+. I can close my eyes and imagine I’m hearing this song on a major radio station — well, if any major radio station would play songs with such themes.
It’s quite a touching piece. Having never heard the original song before, I was tearing up the first time I heard last night.
Very well done!

I remember hearing this song more than two years ago of the FMF website under the name Hali. It was beautiful then, sounding almost like a live recording.
And this one I feel complements that one well, it’s cleaner, but quieter. I feel the original has a more raw energy to it. I think I’ll keep both versions, they’re both worth it.
