A friend of Matthew’s just recently died in a motorcycle accident. This was someone he had worked with when he lived in Nashville, someone who was close to him and helped keep him sane at his old day job.

This song is for Cliffie and for everyone she brought a little light to.

Lyrics:

Sometimes it’s better that we don’t know where we’re going.
We bet it all, but our cards are rarely showing.
It always ends the same:
We cash in all our chips and leave the game.

The house is dimmed and there’s no more sound to sing to.
The light you see are the flames that we all cling to
And you were quite the blaze-
a torch among the tea lights on parade.

So will you light my way?

We move on down a road that leads to somewhere
we’re not sure, but we hope that you will be there.
We won’t be the same,
we’re brighter now you’ve given us your flame.
Maybe someday we will meet again.

I really do like this song, even if it damn near brings me to tears when I listen to it. Knowing the background of the song tends to make me think about the people I’ve known that have left before their time, but the song brings back good memories of them.

Great work Matt, keep it up!

Matt this song made me almost cry, it was so touching, I’m very sorry for your loss. This is a more than fitting tribute
